I love being able to find flowers and the fresh produce in Chiba year round.

Country of Origin: Canada
Length of Stay in Japan: Four years

What draws you to Japan?
I have been interested in Japanese history and culture since I was a young child. This led to me pursue an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies with a focus on Japan.
Do you have a certain image of Chiba?
My image of Chiba before moving here centered on Narita International Airport. Once I began living here I realized just how large Chiba Prefecture really is and that places like Chiba City are quite international.
On traveling and tourism
Where have you traveled in Japan?
When I came to Japan as an exchange student, I traveled to Hokkaido, Sendai, Kyoto, Kobe, Hiroshima City, Okinawa, Aichi, and Gifu Prefecture. There are still many more places that I would like to visit in Japan.
Have you explored Chiba Prefecture (or Chiba City) ?
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to explore much of Chiba Prefecture yet. However, I have made it Disneyland and to Makurari but have also been to Chiba Castle, Otaki Castle and Kururi Castle.
Thoughts or Comments
To tell you the truth, the castles I saw in Chiba have left a stronger impression on me than Disneyland. Besides the castles in Chiba, I have visited Nagoya Castle, Inuyama Castle, Himeji Castle, and Shuri Castle as well as others.
How would you compare tourist sites in Japan (or Chiba) with those in your home country?
Canada is the second largest country in the world. Many of the most popular sites to visit have more to do with nature than manmade objects. For example, Niagara Falls is very popular spot for tourists to visit. On the other hand, many of the sites to visit in Chiba focus on culture, history and tradition.
What makes living in Japan (or Chiba) fun?
I love being able to find flowers and fresh produce in Chiba all year round. You can almost always walk into a grocery store or to a small vegetable stand and pick up produce from Chiba Prefecture. The flowers are stunning too. No wonder Chiba City is called “the City of Flowers.
