The Gyotoku Plant went into operation in 1986 as Japan’s first recycling-type intermediate treatment producing RDF (Refuse-derived Fuel) from wastes. In response to the variations in the nature of wastes due mainly to the changing structure of industry, the equipment was completely renewed and with mixed wastes used as the fuel and on condition of strict prior sorting it was possible to produce an RDF that had a more stable quality. The plant was granted approval for intermediate treatment service using both domestic wastes and industrial wastes and is quite unique in this respect also on a nationwide scale.
