Cautions for Sightseeing and Visiting of Industrial Premises

Admission to facilities for “industrial sightseeing/industrial tourism” is essentially intended for domestic Japanese tourists. In recent years, however, there have been many inquiries and requests for visitation from overseas would-be visitors and we have responded by establishing this homepage guide.

Each and all of the facilities presented in this homepage have made every effort to let overseas visitors enjoy the study tour and to make it a fruitful experience. Below are some “cautions” we would like you to consider so that everybody can enjoy the “industrial sightseeing” tour in good spirits.

Plan early and check with the facility beforehand!

Some of the facilities open to study visits do not admit visitors on a daily basis. Facilities with such limitations may not accept visitors unless inquiries have been made some considerable time in advance. There are also many facilities which have employees volunteering to do the guided tours without detriment to their ordinary work routine. Would-be visitors should always remember that sometimes facilities which are busy places with their own schedules to consider, cannot accommodate visitors coming at their own convenience. Except for a small number of facilities most are not able to converse in foreign languages. So you cannot take it for granted that when you phone the person answering your call will be able to talk in your language. Preferably phone calls should be made in Japanese or with the help of an interpreter.

Make sufficient allowances in case you arrive by car or bus or if you want to have lunch at an eating place!

While some facilities have only limited parking space that cannot accommodate large buses others are so spacious that you need a bus for the observation tour.

The eating places for your lunchtime break have limited seating capacity (space) and are open only at certain hours. Be sure to check with each facility you want to visit before your start planning your field trip.

Give due consideration to the house rules of the facilities!

Many facilities do not allow taking photos, videos and/or sound recordings as part of their policy of protecting corporate information. Please be sure to check beforehand. On an observation visit to the facilities visitors will enter places that are normally barred from access. To make the visit a fruitful experience you need above all mutual understanding between the visiting and the visited sides.

Checking the latest information!

This homepage has been compiled based on the information as it stands in March 2009. The details for visits given by the facilities too have been recorded as being valid as of March 2009. Since details concerning visits are subject to change at the discretion of the facilities concerned be sure to check the information you need to know beforehand either by telephone, fax or other communication means.
