Chiba Prefecture, a happy region with the full blessings of nature, has a long history of being home to industrial development underpinned by traditional crafts and industries such as the brewing industry. The industrial spread towards and along the seacoast, and particularly the settlement of companies producing energy and materials such as iron and steel and petrochemical products along the coastline, have been the driving force of the post-war Japanese economy as a whole.
In recent years, the Prefecture has seen an active commitment to environmental protection and recycling and has attracted the settlement of a large variety of facilities. Its companies have played a major role in bringing about an order of society that is based on recycling and its many research centers and institutes have tackled unique leading-edge science and technology themes.
We welcome visitors from abroad to come and see the many factories that represent the manufacturing and energy base on which the life and livelihood of the nation rest and are confident that this will be an opportunity to learn and understand the basic fabric of Japanese life and the nation’s history and culture.
In this context, we have prepared this homepage designed to give you an idea about the unique features of the many facilities, be it factories or research centers, in Chiba Prefecture that are open to receive visitors from abroad to get a more direct understanding and feel of the role these facilities have played in the past and the possibilities they offer for the future. We hope that the information offered will encourage industrial tourism and attract visits and field study outings by (school) children and by the general public.
In the preparation of this homepage we have been fortunate to draw on the cooperation of those concerned at the facilities presented here and of many other contributors and take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude for their support.
We would be very pleased if this homepage could be helpful in conveying to the viewer the interesting nature of Chiba Prefecture’s “MANUFACTURE, The Making of Things” that is the backbone of Japanese industry.
