The Hotta house

Hotta Masatomo, the last feudal lord of Sakura Domain, lived in this house when he moved from Tokyo to Sakura after the restoration of Imperial power in 1868.

After a large-scale repair and restoration work in the autumn of 1999, it was designated as an important national cultural asset in 2000.

The inner court made by Iichi Hikoemon, a gardener in the Meiji period, is open to public at all times as “Sakura Teien (Cherry Garden).”
