Chikyu no Maruku Mieru Oka Ocean View Observatory

The observatory is located at the top of Atagoyama Hill (73.6 meters high), one of the heights of the Shimousa Terrace.

It commands a boundless ocean view, sometimes including even Mt. Fuji, on the east and south as well as an extensive view from the Kashima Sea to Mt. Tsukuba on the north. On the west, you can glance over another expanse of waters from Byobu-ga-Ura Creek to Kujukuri Beach.

A 360-degree panorama around you from the observation platform (90 meters above sea level) lets you personally experience through the arcing horizon that the Earth is a globe.

You can also experience a beautiful view of the Sun setting into the ocean till about the middle of February.

Foreign languages English leaflet is available in the observatory. (No guide signs in English)
